Today, the El Sauzal Sirenitas (Mermaids) received 6 full bags of donated equipment from the California Cruisers Fastpitch Softball Travel Softball Team in California USA.
We received 12 helmets with face masks, 35 12" Game Balls, over 50 practice whiffle balls, 6 full size bats in various sizes, 2 sets of catchers gear, with the bags usable for 6 players to keep their equipment. "This is a huge thing for us" says Dr. Irma Lozano, Director of the El Sauzal Sirenitas, a new club team in Ensenada. "With this stuff we can really get things moving in our community as we prepare for our first clinic that starts June 7 here in El Sauzal.
With all of our kids coming from underprivileged homes where the average parent earns just $ 400 USD per month, these donations are really the only was we can get this kids on the field learning how to help themselves through cooperation, teamwork, hard work, and initiative.
-The El Sauzal Sirentas Club Team will be comprised of players from 5 to 12 years old playing in the Ensenada Recreation League against teams from Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe
The California Cruisers are one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the nation, the Cruisers go back to the early '90's when Jenny Finch led her 12U and 14U teams to ASA titles. More recently, won a national title in 1999 and was runner-up in 2001 and 2004. Current big-name alums include former ASA All-American Haley Woods (Cal) and college All-American Lauren Lappin (Stanford). "We truly and sincerely thank the California Cruisers and their leadership for their generosity, kindness, and humanity" says Coach Ivan Damazo of the 8 and under El Sauzal Sirenitas team.
